Áine remains as a well-known, if not always fully understood, figure in Irish mythology and folklore. Some stories of her have come down to us from as much as a thousand years ago, though her roots are undoubtedly much older. She is linked to many parts of the country, Donegal, Tyrone, Louth, but her connections to the fertile lands of east Limerick are perhaps the most widely recognised. In this talk, Brian Collopy, local historian and folklorist, will dive into these local connections, and show how they also connect to our broader undertandings of Áine. He will explore Áine using history, folklore, mythology, placenames, prayers, and archaeology. Áine's links to Lough Gur are many, and there is hardly a more appropriate place in Ireland to learn about this ancient goddess. This talk is the result of many years' research, both archival and face-to-face, and offers one of the most complete portraits of Áine yet attempted. An exciting and new introduction to east Limerick's most enduring sacred figure.

Step into the magic of midsummer where nature, myth, and community meet. 🌿
