Ballyhoura’s Past, Present and Future Come Together as New Sustainability Stories Campaign Launches
🌿 Small steps, big ideas and a shared vision for Ballyhoura🌿
It was a real pleasure to be part of the launch last week of the Ballyhoura Sustainability Stories Campaign at Charleville Park Hotel.
On the day, I had the privilege of representing not only my own business, The Old Bank Bruff, but also Griston Bog and Ballyhoura Heritage & Environment CLG, with whom I volunteer, and the wider contribution that community-led heritage, environmental and tourism projects make across our region.
The Ballyhoura region has a long tradition of people giving their time, energy and commitment to building communities, developing tourism and creating opportunities. It was wonderful to see that spirit brought together in one room.
Last week, for me, it was setting up our (first) stand, meeting people, sharing our stories, promoting upcoming festivals in Bruff Community and showcasing what Ballyhoura- Bruff & Lough Gur has to offer within our region. It was easy to be relaxed with Lynda from Rockbarton Garden School and Claire from Lough Gur Pottery been my stand neighbours, as was John from Ballyneety Golf Club and James from Limerick Field Archery Club on the other side
But I also have to acknowledge the people who make it possible for me to give my time to these things. I am incredibly grateful to Claire and Louise, who support me every day at The Old Bank, in helping keep the business running when I need to attend events, supporting me through last years college studies and the next training course ( they don't know about yet), and being there to support me on days like this, and participating on the recording day for the video which will be released soon.
It really does show what can happen when we come together, small wins, shared ideas and collaboration creating something much bigger. With Ballyhoura Fáilte celebrating 40 years of community-led tourism, it feels like a particularly special time to reflect on what has been achieved by generations of people who have given their time and energy to this region, while looking forward to what comes next. Proud to play my small part in that story, and grateful to the people who help make it possible.
