Walking Trails
Traversing a landscape rich in geology, archaeology and wildlife, Ballyhoura country offers spectacular walking in the ancient and un-spoilt landscapes of north Cork and east Limerick and accounts for 10% of Ireland's Looped Walks in Ireland.
Whether your interests lie in short looped walks or long hikes along the Ballyhoura way, whether you prefer guided walks or to organize your own walks independently, walkers of all abilities will be invigorated by the sheer beauty and tranquillity of the area.
The Ballyhoura Bears are a friendly walking group based in the beautiful Ballyhoura region. They bring people together through a shared love of walking, nature and the great outdoors through weekly Walks on Thursday evenings, Saturdays with 2 walks on Sundays.
The group explores the many trails, hills and hidden gems across Ballyhoura throughout the year. They are also closely involved in the annual Ballyhoura Walking Festival, welcoming walkers from near and far. More than just walking, the Bears are about friendship, community, adventure and enjoying the Ballyhoura landscape together.
The Ballyhoura Walking Festival is an annual celebration of walking, nature and the great outdoors. It brings walkers from near and far to explore the beautiful Ballyhoura Mountains and surrounding countryside. A variety of guided walks cater for different abilities, showcasing the landscape, heritage and hidden gems of the region.
The festival also sits alongside the Joyce Brothers Music Festival, adding music, culture and entertainment to the weekend. Together, they create a wonderful celebration of walking, music, community and the unique character of Ballyhoura.
