The Joyce Brothers Music Festival 2022

A weekend of music, song, dance, and history celebrating the wonderful legacy of brothers PW and Robert Dwyer Joyce, natives of Glenosheen
Joyce Brothers Music Festival which celebrates the life, times and works of Joyce Brothers, Patrick Weston Joyce (1827-1914) and Robert Dwyer Joyce (1830-1883) who were famous Irish poets, writers and collectors of traditional Irish Music. Joyce Brothers Music Festival commemorates and keeps alive the memory and spirit of the Joyce Brothers in the local area.
 
Join for a packed programme of event celebrating the life, times and collections of the Joyce Brothers. For the second year, the festival runs in collaboration with the Ballyhoura Walking Festival. A weekend pass is available which provides access to all three evening events (please note that workshops are not included in the weekend pass). Programme of Events for Joyce Brothers Festival 2022
 
Thursday, 6th October
Thursday’s Gala Opening Night at 7:30pm features a celebration of the history and life of the Joyce Brothers through music, song, dance, chat, and the magic of Des Dillon and his puppets, while artists and local historians Teresa O’Doherty and Angela Hennessy will each give an insight into the history and importance of the Joyce brothers and their collections. They welcome the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) as we premier "Drawing from the Well", featuring Derek Hickey on the Joyce Collection.

Friday, 7th October
On Friday, an evening concert with "Hup na Houra" and tunes by acclaimed traditional musicians Donal Clancy and Mary Bergin is followed by a trad session in Healy’s Bar where local and visiting musicians will get a chance to play.

9pm: Traditional Session in Healys Bar This is a free event and all are welcome. The session will be led by musicians, John Carroll, John Flanagan, Charlie Reynolds and Brian Fitzgerald.
 
Saturday, 8th Oct 2022
The Saturday afternoon schedule includes a series of workshops, which teach the music and songs of the collection:
11:30am to 1pm - Music Workshops (all tickets €10)
Beginners Music Workshop (Teach na Cille, V35 KW01) - Join musician Seán Ó Feaghail to learn simple tunes from the Joyce collection. This workshop is aimed at beginner musicians. All instruments welcome.
Intermediate Music Workshop (Old Chapel Rooms, V35 V998) - Join musician Matt Cranitch to learn more advanced tunes from the Joyce collection. This workshop is aimed at intermediate level musicians. All instruments welcome.
Tin Whistle Master Class (Scoil Fhionáin, V35 EY95) - This masterclass will be taught by the great tin whistle player Mary Bergin and is a must for anybody who aspires to play this instrument
 
2:30 to 4pm - Singing Dancing and Whistling workshops (all tickets €10)
Advanced Music Workshop (Scoil Fhionáin, V35 EY95) - Join Aoife Ní Bhriain to learn more advanced tunes from the Joyce collection. This workshop is aimed at proficient musicians. All instruments welcome.
Traditional Singing Workshop (Ó Ceilleachair, V35 Y9K0) - This workshop will be taught by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and is suitable for singers of all levels.
Sean Nós Dancing Workshop (Old Chapel Rooms, V35 V998) - This workshop will be taught by Ciara Flanagan and is suitable for all levels and for all ages from 9 to 90!
Whistling Workshop (Teach na Cille, V35 KW01) - Learn the skill of whistling a tune - Taught by Anita Bennis, suitable for all.
 
On Saturday evening, a traditional concert featuring some of Ireland's finest musicians will take place. These accomplished artists have studied the Joyce collection to perform some of their tunes at this event.

Sunday, 9th October
On Sunday afternoon, historian Angela Hennessy will lead a walk to the Joyce Brothers’ homestead in Glenosheen followed by a couple of more music sessions.
1pm - Walk from Ballyorgan to the Joyce Homestead, Glenosheen led by historian, Angela Hennessy Historical walk and tunes at the Joyce homestead. This is a free event and all are welcome. 2 to 4pm:Traditional Session in Nuala Mee’s Pub Ballyorgan Music with Liam Flanagan & Friends. This is a free event with finger food and all are welcome 5pm:
Final Performance/Session in Ó Ceilleachair's Pub, Kilfinane V35 Y9K0 Featuring Johnny Óg Connolly, Clíodhna Costelloe & Pádraig Ó Dubhghaill
